Mount Vernon ISD established in 1943 after the consolidation of nearby schools. Originally built in the 1960s, the campus has expanded several times to meet the needs of the student population and program requirements.
Several new additions and renovations include a new Fine Arts building that will replace and centralize the band and its equipment, as well as serve as an ICC 500 rated storm shelter. It also features an Acting Lab, Art Studio, dressing rooms, and restrooms. Additionally, a new Cafeteria and Kitchen will deliver dining facilities for students, with enough seating for assemblies, conferences, and banquets.
The addition of outdoor seating will allow students to take advantage of good weather and provide a gathering space before and after school. The current AG Barn will be replaced with a new layout dedicated to individual welding bays, giving students more control over their environment.
Renovations of the existing School District Administration and High School Administration buildings unify all administration staff and provide new offices for the expanding team. Also, modernizations of the Auditorium Lobby include restrooms additions and updated finishes.
