Irma Marsh Construction Continues
Major renovation of a 1955 urban middle school with new additions will increase the school from 120,000 SF to 160,000 SF, serving 1,100 students for grades 6-8. The project includes a new two-story front office and library addition, two-story classroom addition, and a fine arts addition. The oldest portions of the building will be completely reconstructed internally, and the entire campus will be outfitted with new finishes and life safety systems. The design includes many features to accommodate the District’s 21st Century teaching model with collaboration spaces, maker spaces, STEAM labs, and a digitally based media center.
In addition, many aggressive sustainability features are included: new high-performance window systems, new continuous insulation in exterior walls, LED lighting with digital controls, and high-performance HVAC systems. The project is scheduled to open Fall 2020.
